2 siblings killed as train hits their bike
Dhaka: Two siblings were killed when a train hit their motorcycle at an unmanned level crossing at Gandamara in Laksam municipality area on Tuesday, reports UNB.
Railway police said the Dhaka-bound ‘Karnaphuli Express’ train from Chittagong crashed into the bike around 1:15pm while Mafizul Islam, 55, and Zahirul Islam, 35, sons of Basharat Ali of Undania village in Sadar Dakkhin upazila, were crossing the rail tracks.
Both the brothers died on the spot.
Mafizul was an expatriate while Zahirul an employee of Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD), Comilla. They met the tragedy while going to Laksam.
Police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital morgue for autopsy.
Laksam Railway police officer-in-charge Ahsan Habib termed the level grossing illegal. ‘That’s why there is no gateman,’ he added.
