Special prayers offered for plane crash victims

Dhaka: Special prayers were offered at different religious institutions and worship places, including mosques, temples, churches and pagodas, across the country on Friday seeking peace for the departed souls of those killed in the Kathmandu plane crash and quick recovery of the injured.

A special munajat was held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Juma prayers.  Khatib of the mosque Maulana Mohiuddin Kashem conducted the munajat.

Awami League joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dhaka City (South) AL General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad, and Islamic Foundation Director General Shamim Mohammad Afzal also took part in the special prayers.

Earlier on Thursday, the nation observed a one-day state mourning with due solemnity in memory of the victims of the plane crash in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The national flag was hoisted half-mast at all government offices, including the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, Bangladesh Secretariat, High Court and educational institutions, across the country.

The US-Bangla Airlines flight which flew from Dhaka to Kathmandu carrying 67 passengers and four crew members, crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport in the capital of Himalayan country of Nepal on Monday, leaving 49 people, including 26 Bangladeshis, dead.

Of the dead, 22 are Nepalese and one is Chinese.
