Sylhet: Another victim of the devastating fire at a colony in Golapganj upazila died at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital on Tuesday, taking the death toll from the incident to six.

Babul succumbed to his injuries around 12 noon, said his relative Liton Talukdar.

Earlier, at least five people, including a woman and her son, were killed and 20 others injured in the devastating fire originated from a gas line riser following a lightning strike on Sunday.

The other deceased are Taskima Begum, 32, wife of Fazlu Miah, hailing from Moglabazar Khalermukh village of South Surma upazila, their two-year-old son Tahmid, Sebul, 18, employee of Bablu, Jihad, 20, and Shebu Begum, 22, wife of Machhkandar Ali, hailing from Ponairchak village in the same upazila.

The fire broke out at a room of the semi-pacca house of the colony in Lakkhanaband area around 3am and it soon engulfed other rooms where two families were living, leaving five people dead on the spot and 20 others injured.

The injured were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and GolapganjUpazila Health Complex.

Later, Babul was shifted to the DMCH from the district hospital with 70 percent burns.
