6 killed and 7 injured in Satkhira road accident
Satkhira: Six individuals including women and children were killed and seven others were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a pick-up on Satkhira-Khulna highway at Bhairabnagar mor in Tala upazila on Tuesday night.
The deceased were identified as Ashiqurzaman, 12, son of Moniruzzaman, his wife Aklima Khatun, 55, and their daughter Mim, 3, Nur Banu, 50, Saidur Rahman, 35 and Sabbir Hossain, 5, all residents of Kaliapur village in the upazila.
The injured could not be identified immediately.
Eyewitness sources said that Moniruzzaman rented a pick-up and along with his 16 relatives, went to attend a Namaz-e-Janaza in Khulna.
The accident took place on their way back in the evening around 8.30pm, when a speeding truck collided head-on with their pick-up on the highway, leaving six dead on the spot and seven others injured.
Patkelghata Police Station officer-in-charge Jakir Hossain confirmed the death and said that on information, police recovered the bodies and sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
The injured were also admitted in the same hospital. Of them, three are in critical condition, the OC added.
