Mymensingh: A married couple were killed and three other people were injured as a private car collided with an oil tanker truck, which was parked roadside, at Shikarikanda of Mymensingh suburb in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Kotwali police Officer-in-charge (OC) Mahmudul Islam said the accident took place in front of Azad CNG station at Shikarikanda at about 2:30am.

The deceased are Abhijit Singh Poltu, in his thirties, and his wife, Moni Singh, around 24 years old.

The injured are Abdullah Al Mamun Arif, president of Mymensingh metropolitan Chhatra League, Mofiz Hossain, and Shajib Singh Roy. Shajib was the passenger of the private car. Arif and Mofiz were sent to Dhaka as they are in critical condition, while Shajib was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

The OC said Poltu along with his wife Moni, and relative Shajib were travelling to Mymensingh from Dhaka. At one stage, the private car struck with an oil tanker truck in front of a CNG station and left two people dead on spot.

The bodies were kept at hospital’s morgue for autopsy.
