Dhaka: Chhayanaut welcomed Bangla New Year 1425 on Saturday hoping to erase grimy staffs and wipe out back-dated garbage gathered in previous year as well as to welcome the newish, youthful and beauty with the hope of a better future.

At least 150 singers under the banyan tree in Ramna Park were probing these through Bangla songs and Bangla poem recitation.

Thousands of visitors were bristling from early morning in Ramna Park to start the first day with the performance of the prominent cultural organisation.

Every year Chhayanaut arranges the welcoming programme which is a five decades’ tradition where many artists of their institution welcome the Nababarsho under the banyan tree.

Women artists wearing off-white cotton shari and men light olive color Panjabi begun the programme at 6.15am.

The theme of this year’s programme is ‘Search for the roots in light of the globalisation’ and through the slogan they want to create values against brutal mentality as well as distribute it among the young generation.

At least 150 artists performed with 16 solo songs, 12 choruses and two recitations in the two-hour programme.

The visitors mainly wore white and red combination dresses. Women decorated their hair with white flowers and hand with bangles as well as men made turban on their head with colorful towels (gamcha). Children held various toys and ‘Shubho Nababarsha’ written placards in their hands.

Priya Mandal, a visitor from Dhaka University, said, “I have come here to celebrate the first day of Baishakh as well as to enjoy the songs by Chhayanaut artists.”

The Chhayanaut programme finished with national anthem ‘Amar sonar bangla ami tomay valobashi’ where every visitor sang chorused with the artists and with a hope for a bright society.
