Lightning kills 7 in 5 districts

Seven people were killed and five others injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Habiganj, Sirajganj, Panchagarh, Chapainawabganj and Kishoreganj districts on Wednesday.

In Habiganj, two farmers — Azim Uddin, 40, and Shahin Miah, 35 — were killed and two others — Abdul Hakim and Askar Miah of Moka village — injured after being hit by a thunderbolt while harvesting paddy in Baniachang upazila around 11:30am, said Ershad Ali, chairman of Kagapasha union council, reports the UNB.

The injured were taken to a local hospital.

Besides, Paniomoda union parisahd chairman of Nabiganj upazila Izasur Rahman said Abdur Zabbar was killed by lightning while harvesting paddy in his land.

In Sirajganj, a farmer was killed and another injured as a thunderbolt hit them while cutting paddy in a field amid rain at Sinnarchar in Kazipur upazila.

The deceased was identified as Sanwar Hossain, 30, son of Abdul Haque of Sinnarchar village.

In Chapainawabganj, another farmer, Sonaddi, 40, son of Erfan Ali of Suknapara village of Sadar upazila, was killed being hit by a streak of lightning while cutting paddy in a field at Chanbhasa in Sadar upazila.

In Panchagarh, a housewife, Marzina Aktar, 35, wife of Sattar Ali, died after being struck by lightning at the courtyard of her house in Singroad area of Chaklahat union in Sadar upazila early in the morning.

In Kishoreganj, a farmer was killed and two others were injured as they were hit by lightning while cutting paddy in separate haors in Nikli upazila around 3:30pm.

The deceased was identified as Md Akbar Ali, 35, son of Nil Mahmud of Nabinpur village while the injured are Saiqul, 45, and Titu, 13, Gouripur village in the upazila.
