Chattogram: Five policemen, including two sub-inspectors of Sitakundu highway police, have been closed to district police lines for releasing a drug trader after embezzling Yaba seized from his possession.

They are two sub-inspectors Mohiuddin and Adam Ali and three constables Mamun, Imam Hossain and Mostafa of Baro Aulia thana of highway police.

Earlier on May 7, a 5-member team of the Baro Aulia Highway Police led by SI Mohiuddin in a drive detained a young man Md Mostakim, 36, son of Taslim Uddin Khandaker of Baranda village in Gazipur district, along with 21,800 pieces of Yaba tablets worth around Tk 66 lakh from a bus on Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

However, the team released Mostakim taking the Yaba from his possession.

On information, a team of detective branch of police arrested Mostakim when the bus reached Dhaka.

Later, SI Mohiuddin was closed to Cumilla Highway Police on May 7 immediately after the incident came into light.

The withdrawal decision was taken on Friday night as a probe committee found the policemen guilty.
