10 killed in road accidents across country

At least 10 people were killed and 17 others injured on Saturday in separate road accidents in Chattogram, Narayanganj, Chapainawabganj, Bogura, Panchagarh, Sirajganj and Moulvibazar districts.

In Chattogram, two people were killed and seven others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus in Keranihat area of Satkania upazila on Saturday morning.

The deceased are Abdur Razzak, 35 and Nasrin Sultana, 28.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dohazari Highway police station, said a Cox’s Bazar-bound bus of ‘Saint Martin Paribahan’ collided with the Chattogram-bound microbus, leaving the duo dead on the spot and seven other passengers of the microbus injured.

In Narayanganj, an auto-rickshaw driver and a passenger were killed on the spot as a bus crushed their auto-rickshaw at Dhakeshwari area of Sidhirganj in the early hour.

The deceased are Monir Hossain, 30, auto-rickshaw driver and son of Ratan Mia of Narshingdi and Mabub Alam, 29, son of Chan Mia of Damurda area of Shariatpur.

Sub-inspector of Sidhirganj Police Station Nasir Ahmed said the accident occurred around 4:30 am while the bus hit the auto-rickshaw and fled.

In Chapainawabganj, two separate road accidents killed two people including a woman in Shibganj upazila.

Sub-inspector of Shibganj Police Station Ainul Haque said a woman was hit by a truck at Pukuria area while she was crossing the road around 11 am.

The driver and his assistant managed to flee but police seized the vehicle, he said.

Meanwhile, minor girl, Sumaiya Khatun, was killed on the spot as a trolley hit her while crossing the road at Kaliganj area of Binodpur around 12 noon.

In Bogura, a man was killed and four others injured as a micro-bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head on at Gabtoli area in the sadar upazila around 6 am.

Officer-in-charge of Gabtoli Police Station Khairul Bashar said a Bogura bound auto-rickshaw was hit by a micro-bus killing Abdul Jobbar, 45, son of Jillur Rahman on the spot.

The injured were rushed to Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College, he added.

In Panchagarh, Tabibor Rahman, 70, was killed as truck hit him on Panchagarh-Tentulia Highway at Baristar bazar.

Officer-in-charge of Panchagarh Police Station Rabiul Hasan said Tabibur was killed on the spot and police seized the truck while its driver managed to flee.

In Sirajganj, Moniza Khatun, 49, died while her husband, Sanowar Hossain, 55, sustained injuries as a bus hit their motor-cycle at Hatikumrul on Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway.

Police seized the bus and arrested its driver, officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Police Station Abdul Kader said.

In Moulvibazar, auto-rickshaw driver Elias Mia, 30, was killed and five others injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a passenger bus collided head-on in Kamlganj upazila around 3 pm, said Sub-inspector Krishna Mohan Das of Kamalganj Police Station.
