Two killed in Bagerhat lightning strike

Bagerhat: Two people, including a woman, were killed and two others injured in separate lightning strikes in Morelganj and Sadar upazilas on Tuesday.

In Moreljganj, Bikash Mridha, 50, son of Romen Mridha of Kumarijola village, was killed and Subhash Talukder, 48, injured as they were struck by a thunderbolt at noon.

Officer-in-charge of Morelganj Police Station Md Rashedul Alam said the duo was working in a fish enclosure when a thunderbolt bore down on them, leaving them severely injured.

Bikash was declared dead at Sadar Hospital.

Shree Debi, 30, wife of Sujeet, was injured in separate incident of lighting strike in Joymoni Katakhal area of the upazila. She was taken to the Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition.

In Sadar upazila, housewife Shampa Rani Mondal was severely injured after being hit by lightning when she went to a field to call the cattle home amid rain.

Bemorta union parishad chairman Monwar Hossain said after being taken to the hospital, doctors declared Shampa dead.
