Road accidents kill 10 in 4 districts

At least 10 people were killed and 50 others injured in separate road accidents in Khulna, Bhola, Kishoreganj and Khagrachhari districts on Thursday.

In Khulna, five people were killed and 14 others injured when a bus plunged into a ditch filled with rainwater on Khulna-Satkhira road at Bortia in Dumuriaupazila.

Three of the deceased are ShahinurGazi, 40, son of OhidGazi, Shariful Islam, 35, son of LutfarRahman and MostafaGazi, 35, residents of Kalna village in Koyraupazila.

Habil Hossain, officer-in-charge of Dumuria Police Station, said the Khulna-bound bus from Paikgacchaupazila fell into the ditch while overtaking another bus around 12:45 pm, leaving five people dead on the spot and 14 others injured.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Khulna Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The injured were taken to a local hospital.

In Bhola, a man and a teenage boy were killed and six people injured following a collision between a human hauler and a trolley in Helipad area of Charfassionupazila on Thursday morning.

The deceased are Md Mansur Talukder, 45, son of Rahim Sikder, a resident of ward no 9 in Osmanganj union and Siam, 12, son of MdMasud, a resident of Aslampur union.

MdEnamulHaque, officer-in-charge of Charfassion police station, said the battery-run human hauler (locally named as Borak) collided with the goods-laden trolley in the morning, leaving Mansur dead on the spot and seven other people critically injured.

Among the injured, Siam died on the way to hospital.

In Kishoreganj, two people were killed and 30 others injured in Pakundia and Karimganj upazilas in the morning.

In Pakundia upazila, a Kishereganj-bound bus collided with a pick-up van, killing a woman on the spot and injuring 19 other people.

The deceased is Jarina Begum.

The injured were admitted to sadar hospital.

Besides, a Dhaka-bound bus plunged into a pond in Karimganj upazila, killing Helal Mia on the spot ant injuring 11 others.

The injured were admitted to Karimganj Upazila Hospital.

In Khagrachhari, an NGO worker was killed as a microbus hit his motorcycle at Lemuchhari in sadar upazila in the district.

The deceased is Sugata Chakma, 42.
