At least 12 people were killed and 28 others injured in separate road crashes in six districts across the country on Tuesday.

In Narsingdi, seven people, including four children, were killed in a head-on collision between a bridal party microbus and a bus at Sonamurirtek in Shibpur upazila in the morning.

The deceased were identified as Prantika Rani Barman, 6, Snigdha Rani Barman, 5, Bristy Rani Barman, 7, Sourav Barman, 12, Sajal Barman, 20, Shuvo Barman, 30, and cameraman Sajal, 25. All of them were residents of Satnol village in Matlabupazila of Chandpur district.

The Chandpur-bound microbus from Sylhet collided with the Sylhet-bound bus of ‘Mitali Paribahan’ around 7:30 am, leaving three passengers of the microbus dead on the spot and eight others injured, said Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Shibpur Police Station.

The injured were taken to Narsingdi General Hospital where doctors referred four of them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH in the capital.

Among the injured, one died at the Narsingdi hospital while another succumbed to his injuries on the way to the DMCH.

Two more injured died at the DMCH in the afternoon while undergoing treatment.

The tragedy struck the bridal party members when they were returning home from a marriage ceremony in Sylhet.

In Sherpur, a bus collided head-on with a truck on Sherpur-Mymensingh Highway at Paiska in Nakla upazila in the morning, killing the truck driver and injuring 20 people.

The deceased was identified as Nahis Miah, 25, son of Fakir Miah of Bajitkhila in Sadar upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Nakla Police Station Abdul Halim Siddique said the Dhaka-bound bus collided with the Sherpur-bound truck, injuring 21 people. Later, the truck driver succumbed to his injuries at Upazila Health Complex.

In Chattogram, a pedestrian was killed and two others were injured as a covered van overturned at Charalkandi of Sitakunda upazila in the district.

The deceased was identified as Badal Das, 45, son of Debnando Das of Charalkandi in Sitakunda.

In Naogaon, a madrasah student, Atiq Hossain, 19, son of Abdul Wahab of Tilok village in Mohadebpur upazila, was crushed under the wheels of a truck while his motorcycle was hit by it around 9 am on Mohadebpur-Badalgasi road at Moglispur in Mohadebpur.

In Sirajganj, a sand trader was killed as a truck plunged into a deep ditch at Dublarbil area of Ullapara upazila.

The deceased was identified as Samsul Islam, 45, son of Abdul Kuddus of Matikora village of Ullapara upazila, said officer-in-charge of Ullapara Model Police Station Dewan Kowshik Ahmed.

In Satkhira, a schoolgirl was crushed under the wheels of a truck at Hajipur intersection in Ashashuni upazila.

The deceased was identified as Priti Swarnaker, 13, daughter of Parimal Swarnakar of Katakhali village and Class-VII student of a local high school.

The accident took place as a cement-laden truck ran Priti over while going to school on foot, leaving her dead on the spot, said Biplab Kumar Debnath, officer-in-charge of Ashashuni Police station.

Meanwhile, the angry mob vandalised the truck and gave the driver and helper of the truck a good thrashing. Later, they were handed over to the police.

Locals also locked into a clash with police when they were trying to bring the situation under control, said the OC.

The clash left an assistant sub-inspector injured.
