Feni: He had planned to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with his family members back home after two years. Mohammad Sabuj, a Qatar expatriate, set out for home accordingly but he had little idea what a tragedy awaited him.

Six people, including two children and three relatives of the Qatar expatriate, lost their lives in a pre-dawn fatal road accident on Dhaka-Chittagong highway here on Monday on their way to Chattogram airport to receive him, dashing all the dream plans within minutes.

The deceased were identified as Sabuj’s two sons—Shuvo, 7, and Noman, 2, his mother-in-law Jahanara, sister Runa, and niece Popy, 16, and microbus driver Abbas Uddin, 40.

Sabuj’s two brothers-in-law Alam and Raju, nephew Riaz and another relative Nur Nahar were also injured in the accident that took place when a truck collided head-on with a microbus carrying the victims at Muhuriganj in Chhagalnaiya upazila around 3:30am, reports the UNB.

Hailing from Laxmipur Sadar upazila, the victims were going to Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram to receive Sabuj when the tragedy struck them.

The collision took place when a goat-laden truck was heading towards Chhagalnaiya on the wrong side of the road after taking a U-turn, said Mohammad Nazrul Islam, superintendent of Cumilla regional highway police.

The accident left six people dead on the spot and the four others injured while the driver of the truck sped away after the accident, he said.

On information, police and fire service men recovered the bodies. The injured were taken to Sadar Hospital.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Wahiduzzaman visited the injured at the hospital.

The bodies were handed over the family members with the permission of DC.

A case was filed with Chhagalnaiya Police Station in this regard.
