Two sixth graders drown in Sherpur
Sherpur: Two sixth grader mates drowned in the Bhogai river in Tarakanda area of Nakla upazila on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Omar Faruk, 12, son of Genda Mia and Akhter Miah, 12, son of Shanto Miah, residents of Goregaon Mahalla. Faruk was a class VI student of Nakla Pilot High School and Shanto was also in the same class of Muktijoddha Smrity Bidya Niketan School, reports the UNB.
Khan Abdul Halim, officer-in-charge of Nakla Police Station, said Faruk and Shanto went to Tarakanda Rubber dam in the river around 5:00pm to enjoy Eid vacation.
Later, they went to an island in the river for playing.
At one stage, Faruk, Shanto and another boy slipped into the river and went missing.
Hearing screaming of other boys, locals rushed there and rescued one.
After two and half hour of frantic efforts, locals recovered the bodies.
