Rally for raising age limit in govt jobs foiled at Shahbagh; 10 held
Dhaka: Police held 10 protesters from Shahbagh area on Saturday when they tried to form a rally demanding extension of age limit to 35 from 30 for entering the civil service.
Demonstrators under the banner of ‘Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Parishad’ gathered at the entrance of Central Library around 11:30 am to hold their rally, reports the UNB.
When the demonstrators tried to move towards Shahbagh intersection, police charged baton on them injuring eight people, said convenor of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Parishad, Snachay Das.
After dispersing the rally, police held 10 members of Chhatra Parishad, he said.
The protestors later held their rally at Raju Sculpture on the Dhaka University campus, he added.
On June 27 last, a parliamentary panel recommended increasing the age limit for entering the public service to 35 years which is currently 30 years.
