Gazipur:  A fire broke out at a garment factory in Signboard area of Gazipur in the early hours of Wednesday.

Fire service officials said the fire originated on the top floor of the eight-storey building of Preeti Sweater factory at about 4:30am and soon engulfed the whole floor.

Gazipur fire service deputy assistant director Akhteruzzaman Liton said four fire trucks from Joydebpur, Tongi, and Uttara headquarters fire services went to the spot and brought the fire under control after one and a half hour, at about 6:00am.

The extent of loss caused by the fire could not be ascertained immediately.

No casualty was recorded in this connection.

However, properties and machineries on the eighth floor were damaged during the incident.
