Speaker leaves for UK
Dhaka: Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad and Chairperson of the Executive Committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury left Dhaka for UK on Saturday to attend several programmes to mark the 'Commonwealth Day' and 'International Women's Day' in the UK and the USA.
The speaker will deliver speech on a programme to mark the 'Commonwealth Day' at Westminster Abbey where Queen Elizabeth II of Britain will be present, said a press release on Sunday.
The Speaker will participate in a dialogue on 13 March on 'Women's Political Leadership in Delivering Democracy and Development in Africa' organised by Commonwealth Secretariat and African Union in the USA.
Later, on 14 March, the Speaker is scheduled to join the 13th meeting of Commonwealth Gender Plan of Action Monitoring Group.
She will join several meetings organised by Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and UN Women.
She will return home on 23 March.
