Dhaka: Despite objection from the ruling Awami League, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman joined the nomination board through videoconferencing as the party started interviewing its nomination hopefuls for the second day on Monday.

The party nomination board, comprising BNP standing committee members, started the interview with those who bought party nomination forms for Barisal division at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office at 10:00am, reports the UNB.

Tarique Rahman joined the nomination board through videoconferencing and he is asking the aspirants various questions.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, JamiruddinS ircar, Rafiqul Islam Miah, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Kahosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Mahbubur Rahman and Mirza Abbas are present there in the nomination board.

The interview of the nomination seekers of Khulna division will begin at 2:30pm.

The nomination board will start the interview of Chattogram division’s aspirants at 9:00am on Tuesday while that of Cumilla and Sylhet divisions from 3:00pm the same day.

The interview of Mymensingh division’s aspirants will start at 9:00am while that of Faridpur division at 3:00pm on Wednesday.

BNP sold 4,580 nomination papers among the aspirants who want to contest the 11th parliamentary elections with its tickets.

The 11th parliamentary elections will be held on December 30.

The last date for submission of nomination papers is November 28 instead of November 19.

Awami League on Sunday said interviewing nomination seekers by BNP acting chairman TariqueRahman through a teleconference is clear violation of the electoral laws and the directives of the ‘Supreme Court’.

An AL delegation, led by Col (retd) Muhammad Faruk Khan, MP, handed over a written complaint in this regard to EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed at his Nirbachan Bhabanoffice in the evening.

Reacting to it, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader drew the attention of the Election Commission, saying whether a fugitive convict in two cases can join the election procedures.

Ruling out Awami League’s objection to taking interview of its nomination seekers by Tarique Rahman through videoconferencing, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam on Sunday said the ruling party has no right to interfere in their party activities.

‘I think they (AL) don’t have any jurisdiction to determine who will take interview of our party (nomination seekers),’ he said while talking to reporters at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in the afternoon.
