1 killed in New Market fire
Dhaka: A young man died from suffocation and three others fell sick as a fire broke out at a room beside the vegetable market in Dhaka’s New Market area early on Wednesday, reports a local news agency.
Fire Service Control Room inspector Atiqul Haque Chowdhury said the fire originated from a burning mosquito coil at the room beside the vegetable market at about 1:42am, when the four people were asleep.
On information, two fire-fighting units went to the spot and doused the blaze at about 2:30am.
The fire service men rescued the four from the room.
Later, they were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Amjad, believed to be in his twenties, dead.
DMCH police camp inspector Mojammel Hossain said Amjad died of suffocation due to the fire.
