Level playing field for polls prevails in country: CEC
Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Saturday said level playing field for election is prevailing in the country while police and administration are working under the Election Commission (EC).
‘Level playing field for election remains in the country and police administration is being controlled by the EC. They (Police) are not arresting anyone without reason,’ he told journalists after attending the inaugural function of a three-day briefing arranged for executive magistrates on electoral code of conduct at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city, reports the BSS.
The election process is progressing appropriately as per the laws, the CEC said, adding, ‘The EC has given directives to the police at a special meeting while they (the police) have also made commitments to us to work with sincerity and transparently and therefore they’re doing their job ‘.
The government doesn’t have any directives in this regard, he said, adding that ‘Rather, our election-related directives are being performed in the field’.
The executive magistrates are being briefed on different electoral laws as they will assist the field level election officials during the 11th parliamentary election, Huda said.
Election Commissioners Mahbub Talukdar, Md Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Brigadier General (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury addressed the function as special gusts with EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed in the chair.
Director General of Electoral Training Institute (ETI) Mustafa Faruq delivered welcome address in the function.
Executive magistrates of 18 districts are taking part in the briefing today at the very first day of the briefing which will end on November 26.
