7 killed in road accidents in 3 dists
A schoolgirl in Sylhet and two utility vehicle drivers in Jhenaidah and four unidentified persons in Tangail were killed in separate road accidents on Wednesday.
Police said Asma Begum, a student of Class X, was hit and ran over by a bus while waiting to get on a bus by a road at Lalbazaar area on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in the city of Sylhet in the morning, reported BSS.
Asma Begum was a student of Police Lines High School and daughter of Altaf Hossain of the same area.
Police said the accident occurred at about 9:00am and she died on the spot.
In Jhenaidah, two people were killed in separate road accidents in Shailakupa and Maheshpur upazilas.
The deceased were Al-Amin Sumon, in his twenties, son of Nawab Ali of Gayeshpur village under Sripur upazila in Magura and Abdul Khalek, in his thirties, son of Joynal Abedin, a resident of Bakundia village under Jibannagar upazila in Chuadanga.
Shailkupa police officer-in-charge Mohibul Islam said Sumon died on the spot as his shallow engine-run utility vehicle fell into a roadside ditch and turned turtle at Baruria-Bat-Tala area in Shailkupa this morning.
Another accident occurred in front of Alam Bricks Kiln in Maheshpur upazila of the district when a bus hit a utility vehicle used as public transport from opposite direction, leaving its driver Khalek critically injured, said Maheshpur police officer-in-charge Aminul Islam.
Khalek succumbed to his injuries at Jibannagar hospital, reported BSS.
The bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital morgue.
Four persons were killed as a bus and a pick-up van collided head on at Kalihati in Tangail. At least four other persons got critical injury.
Bangabandhu Bridge Police Station (East) Officer-in-Charge Akheruzzaman said a bus from North Bangle hit the pick-up van at Kamakkhir More in Kalihat at about 4:00pm.
Three persons travelling on the pick-up van died on the spot and another died at the hospital. Details were yet to be received.
