Rangpur: An infant girl was killed in a train accident at Shaheedbag at Kawnia in Rangpur on Thursday morning, police said.

The deceased was identified as Meghla Khatun, 3, daughter of Monwar Hossain of nearby Swabdi Moiltari village in the same upazila.

The tragic incident occurred after Meghla fell down under the running Lalmonirhat bound Demu Train from Parbotipur and died on the spot.

The victim was playing at nearby potato field alongside the rail line where her parents were plucking potato as farm-labourers.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Kawnia Thana Zahidul Islam said police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
