Will resolve Jamaat candidature issue in two days: EC secy
Dhaka: A petition, challenging legality of 22 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders contesting national polls with BNP’s electoral symbol, will be resolved in two days, the Election Commission secretary said on Thursday.
Helal Uddin Ahmed said they had received the High Court’s order regarding the matter, reports the UNB.
‘EC’s legal wing has been informed,’ he said. ‘We will complete the procedures within the next two working days.’
Four people moved the EC and the HC on the same day challenging the Jamaat leaders’ candidature.
The High Court disposed of the writ petition filed with it on Tuesday and asked EC to resolve the appeal within three days.
Jamaat has been unable to contest election ever since the High Court revoked its registration with the EC on August 1, 2013. The EC issued a gazette notification on October 29 this year cancelling the party’s registration.
