Manikganj: A woman killed herself after poisoning her two children by feeding them pesticide at Beparipara area of Hargaj upazila in Saturia, Manikganj on Thursday night.

The deceased is Rahima Akhter, believed to be in her twenties.

Rahima’s two children, Taslima Akhter Meghla, aged 8, and Akash Hossain, around 5 years old, were taken to Manikganj Sadar Hospital.

Rahima’s relatives and neighbour claimed the incident took place centering a argument between Rahima and her husband Rahim Uddin.

Local people and family relatives said Rahim Uddin, who is a construction worker, had a tiff with her wife Rahima on Wednesday night.

Later, Rahima poisoned her children by feeding them insecticide in the name of cough syrup at about 9:00pm on Thursday.

She also committed suicide by taking some of the poison.

Local people and relatives rescued them and took them to Upazila Health Complex, where duty doctors declared Rahima dead.

Meghla and Akash were shifted to Manikganj Sadar Hospital for better treatment.

The hospital duty doctor Anisur Rahman said they have washed the stomach of Meghla and Akash, but they are not out of danger yet.

The Saturia police officer-in-charge Habibullah Sarker said the body was sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

However, Rahim fled from the area immediately after the incident.
