3 killed as bus plunges into ditch

Comilla: Three people were killed as a bus plunged into a road side ditch in front of Chauddagram upazila council in Comilla in the early hours of Sunday.

Local people and police said a Chittagong-bound Shymali Paribahan bus fall into a roadside ditch at Chauddagram upazila area on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at about 4:30am as the driver lost his control at and left three passengers dead on the spot.

Nine other people were also injured during the accident.

The Chauddagram police officer-in-charge Abdullah Al Mahfuz said police recovered the bodies and seized the bus, while the driver managed to flee from the spot immediately after the accident.

One among the deceased is Faruque, a resident of Chandraghana at Rangunia upazila in Chittagong.

Six among the nine injured are the students of year III of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET). They were travelling to Chittagong from Dhaka to attend the classes.

The injured were taken to Chauddagram upazila Health Complex. Later six of them were shifted to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
