Savar: A balloon seller was killed after a gas cylinder exploded at an Ashulia picnic spot in Savar on Friday morning.

According to a UNB report, the deceased was Robiul Islam, son of Jamir Uddin of Bishnupur village in Rangpur district. Robiul used to live in a rented house at Wapda Road in Savar upazila with his family.

It was understood that the incident took place when Robiul was blowing up the balloons using the gas cylinder at Barnachchata Picnic spot in the morning.

At one stage, the gas cylinder went off at about 10:00am, leaving one of his legs severed from his body.  Later, he was taken to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in Dhaka where he succumbed to the injuries around 2:30pm.

Ashulia police sub-inspector Avijit confirmed the incident.
