3 garment workers killed in separate accidents

Gazipur: Three garment factory workers were killed in three separate accidents in the city and Kaliakoir upazila on Sunday morning, reports local news agency.

The Mouchak police camp in-charge Saiful Alam said Mahmuda Akter, believed to be 18, a resident of Purbajib area in Kawnia upazila of Rangpur, worked at Hanif Spinning Factory as a machine operator.

She used to live at a rented house in Rakhaliachala area of Kaliakoir.

Mahmuda’s scarf got entangled with a machine when she was working at the factory at about 6:00am and she fell unconscious for strangulation.

Later, she was taken to Safipur General Hospital where doctors declared her dead.

In another incident, Mamunur Rashid, around 31 years, a resident of Shaktipur village in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha, was killed as a truck knocked down his bicycle in Dighipar area on the Chandra Palli-Apex Road in Kaliakoir upazila early on Sunday.

Quoting locals, Sub-inspector of Kaliakoir Police Station Mukti Mahmud said a speeding truck hit the bicycle of Mamunur Rashid, worker of Fareast Knit & Dying Limited, in the area while he was returning from his workplace at about 3:00am, leaving him dead on the spot.

Meanwhile, police recovered the body of Hasina Akter, around 32years old, a resident of Enayetpur village in Fulbaria upazila of Mymensingh, from a paddy field in Teknagpara area of the city on Sunday morning.

The Joydebpur police sub-inspector Ruhul Amin said local people spotted the body of Hasina, a worker of a readymade garment factory, lying in a paddy field at Barboika in Gazipur in the morning.

The bodies were sent to Gazipur Shahid Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
