Khulna jute factory workers’ blockade ends

Khulna: The three-hour road and rail blockade programme, enforced by the workers of the state-owned jute factories in Khulna city to press for their five-point demand, ended on Wednesday afternoon, reports UNB.
The Daulatpur police officer-in-charge Maruf Ahmed said the agitating workers moved away from the blockade sites at about 12:00pm.
As part of the programme, the workers had put up barricade on several roads and rail tracks in the city at about 9:00am.
However, ambulance and vehicles, carrying students, have been kept out of the purview of the blockade programme.
Their demands include allocating sufficient budget for the jute industry, paying the arrear salaries, forming a wage board and not privatising the state-owned jute mills.
The Daulatpur police officer-in-charge Maruf Ahmed said traffic gridlocks were created in some points of the city following the blockade, causing sufferings to the commuters.
