Fire breaks out in residential building, 2 burnt
Dhaka: Two people were burnt as fire broke out in a residential building at Banani in Dhaka in the early hours of Friday.
The residents of the building said the fire broke out at the six-storey building due to gas line explosion at about 1:45am. Later the fire engulfed the whole building.
The injured were taken to an adjacent hospital.
A total of 13 fire service units went to the spot and doused the fire after two hours.
Many of the dwellers took shelter on the roof of the building. The fire fighters rescued them.
The residents complained few days back they informed Titas Gas authorities about gas leakage as they smelled gas, but they did not take any actions.
Fire service director (operation) Major Shakir Newaz said reason behind the fire incident will be known after investigation.
Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Annisul Haque visited the spot and said he will ask Titas Gas authorities to investigate the matter on Friday.
