FSCD committee to probe Banani gas-leak fire
Dhaka: Fire Service and Civil Defence has formed a probe committee to ascertain actual reason behind the fire incident of Banani that injured four people, including one with burn.
One person sustained burns while four others received wounds while rushing for safety as a fire broke out at a six-storey building from a leaked gas pipe in the city’s Banani area early Friday.
Contacted, Assistant Director (Warehouse) of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters Shamim Ahmed Chowdhury said the committee headed by Assistant Director (Dhaka district) of Fire Service Masudur Rahman was asked to submit its report within the next seven working days.
Other two members of the committee are -Deputy Assistant director Salahuddin and Fire Inspector Mamun, he said.
The probe committee will visit the spot on Sunday, said head of the Committee Masudur Rahman.
Palash Madok, fire service inspector, said the fire erupted on the second floor of the building around 1:40 am and went up to the upper floors.
On information, 16 firefighting units rushed in and extinguished the blaze at about 4:40am.
Firefighters also rescued the residents taking shelter on the rooftop after extinguishing the fire. Of them, four who received minor injuries were taken to United Hospital in Gulshan, he said.
United Hospital sources said of the four injured, one was admitted to the hospital with burn injuries, while the rest were given first aid.
