Lightning strikes kill 4 in two districts
A total of four persons died in lightning strikes across the country on Tuesday and Monday. Among the casualties, three deaths were reported from Cox’s Bazar, while one from Moulvibazar.
Cox’s Bazar: Three labourers were killed by a lightning strike when they were working in a salt field at Maghdail in Matarbari union of Maheshkhali upazila on Tuesday, reports UNB.
Of the deceased, two are Habibullah, 40, and Kapil Uddin, 32, while identity of the other could not be known yet.
Matarbari union chairman Enamul Haque Ruhul said a streak of thunderbolt struck them while the trio was working in a salt field at about 8:00am, leaving them dead on the spot.
Moulvibazar:
A woman was killed by lightning at East Islampur village in Kamarchak Union under Rajnagar upazila of the district on Monday.
The deceased Neharun Begum, 28, was wife of Arjok Ali of the village.
Neharun was struck when she was bringing her cattle home during a nor'wester at noon. She died on the spot.
Chairman of Kamarchak union Selim Ahmed confirmed the matter.
