Bagerhat: A wildfire broke out at Shikdar Bari Shila in Chandpai Range of the Sundarbans on Sunday evening.

Station officer of Dhansagar in Chandpai Range, Sultan Mahmud, said forest officials saw some smoke hovering over the area in the evening.

The forest officials reached the spot and saw the fire.

Later, at 8:30am on Monday, a firefighting unit from Morelganj reached there and brought the situation under control with the help of local people and forest officials, reported UNB.

Morelganj service Station Officer Swapan Kumar Bhakta said they have cut a fire lane encompassing about 10acre around the fire a precaution.

Forest fires are critical and can spread across a huge area through the land, said Swapan.

The origin of the fire could not be ascertained yet while some shrubs and bushes have been burnt, said Station Officer of Chandpai Range Sultan Mahmud.
