Public university teachers call off movement
Dhaka: The Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Associations concluded their on-going movement for the eighth pay scale as the government accepted their demand.
ASM Maksud Kamal, Secretary General of FBUTA made the announcement at a press briefing on Tuesday noon after holding a general meeting with FBUTA members at the Dhaka University club.
On March 24, the cabinet committee decided to promote 25 percent teachers of the public universities to Grade I of the 8th national pay scale.
Those who work 20 years as teacher including five years as professor will be given the promotion. Bangladesh University Teachers' Association president professor Farid Uddin Ahmed thanked the committee and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for meeting their major demand.
He also urged that their other demand for creating a ‘super grade’ which is similar to a senior secretary will be accepted soon. Earlier on January 19, the FBUTA temporarily suspended their non-stop work abstention after the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured that their demand will be accepted soon.
The public university teachers have been protesting against the 8th National Pay Scale since May 2015.
