PM’s remarks over Salahuddin missing a mockery: BNP

Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Sunday termed unrealistic and brutal mockery Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s remarks that its joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, who has reportedly remained missing, was driven out of party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s office in a sack of junks.
In a statement, signed by the party joint secretary general Barkatullah Bulu said, ‘We’ve no ward to condemn Prime Minister Sheik Hasina’s irrational, absurd and brutal mockery that Khaleda Zia might have driven out Salahuddin stuffing him in a garbage sack.’
He further said, ‘The country’s people expect responsible comments from her (Hasina), not any perverted fun. The government can’t evade its responsibility for such a serious incident by making such ridiculous comment.’
Though the government illegally assumed office, it is responsible for ensuring the security of every citizen as it is governing the country.
The party alleged that the government is gradually stretching its hands to top opposition leaders as it has turned audacious after being able to kill, abduct and many political leaders and activists and make them disappeared. ‘Salahuddin is the last example of its (govt) brutal audacity.’
BNP demanded the government either immediately release him or produce him before court. ‘Or else, this killer and illegal regime will have to shoulder the responsibility if the situation deteriorates. The people of Bangladesh never ever tolerate any killer regime.’
Earlier on Wednesday night, BNP and Salauddin’s family members claimed that law enforcers picked him up from a house at Uttara on Tuesday night, an allegation denied by the law enforcers and the government.
Barkat Ullah Bulu said though five days have already been elapsed since Salahuddin’s disappearance, neither he has been released nor produced before any court while the law enforcers are denying his arrest. “So, we’re deeply concerned. The government is reluctant though the High Court has issued a rule over the perturbing issue following a writ petition filed by Salahuddin’s wife.
He said the concern of the country’s people and Salahuddin family is growing with the passage of time as the government has earlier dangerous track record of killing and making disappeared many BNP leaders and activists. ‘We’re still unaware which fate actually Salauddin has met, but we want to get him back safe.’
Bulu has been working as BNP spokesman since Salahuddin’s disappearance, and issuing statements on behalf of the party.
