Dhaka: Meghalaya High Court’s senior lawyer SP Mahanta will take up the case when BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed is produced before the court for entering India without any legal documents.

BNP assistant office secretary Abdul Latif Jony and Salahuddin’s wife, Hasina Ahmed, have already met the senior advocate SP Mahanta.

Hasina Ahmed on Tuesday went to meet Salahuddin Ahmed for second time at Shillong Civil Hospital to talk about the legal procedure to bring him back from India.

Earlier, on Monday, Hasina went to under trial prisoners (UTP) cell at the hospital to meet her husband for the first time since he had gone missing from an Uttara house in Dhaka on 10 March.

The BNP leader’s wife said she will try to shift him to a third country through a legal process for better medical treatment, reports Shillong Times.
Earlier, Salahuddin had conveyed to BNP leader Jony Abdul Latif that he wanted to visit Singapore to cure his aliment related to kidney and heart since he used to consult doctors  in that country.

Hasina Ahmed expressed her gratitude to Indian government for looking after Salahuddin Ahmed.

She said, ‘I am thankful to Indian government, the local administration and the hospital authorities for providing shelter and treatment to my husband.’

Meghalaya police detained Salahuddin Ahmed on 11 May as he was roaming around aimlessly in Golf Links area in Shillong after nearly two months of his disappearance. Since he had no valid papers, identity proof or travel permit, he was detained by Meghalaya police and booked under the Foreigners Act.

On 12 May, the BNP joint secretary general phoned his wife Hasina from Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health & Neurological Science (MIMHANS) of India. Later he was shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital on the same day.
