Police team off to Darfur to join peace mission
Dhaka: A 140-member contingent of Bangladesh Police left Dhaka for Darfur, Sudan, early on Saturday to join the United Nations peacekeeping mission.
The police headquarters said the team, led by Superintendent of Police Sarwar Morshed Shamim, left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by an UN chartered flight for rotation of BANFPU-1 contingent in Darfur.
Senior police officials were present at the airport to see them off.
About 1,376 members of Bangladesh Police are currently performing their duties in different UN Peacekeeping missions in several countries, namely Congo, South Sudan, Darfur, Ivory Coast, Mali, Haiti, Liberia and Somalia.
