Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated

Dhaka: Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims, was celebrated in the country on Thursday with much enthusiasm.
The day's programmes began with the offering of Eid prayers by the Muslims at mosques and eidgahs throughout the country.
President Abdul Hamid offered his Eid-ul-Fitr prayers along with hundreds of people from all walks of life at the capital's National Eidgah in the morning.
Cabinet members, Supreme Court judges, members of parliament, senior political leaders and high civil and military officials also offered prayers at the main Eid congregation held at 8:30am.
Senior Pesh Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Maulana Mizanur Rahman conducted the prayers.
A special prayer was offered seeking divine blessings for the peace and progress of the country and the welfare of its people.
Special arrangements were there for women to offer their Eid prayers at the National Eidgah.
The country’s largest Eid congregation was held at Sholakia Eidgah of Kishoreganj at 10:00am despite a bomb attack followed by an exchange of fire between law enforcers and terrorist there.
Eid congregations were also held in eidgahs, mosques and open spaces all over the country.
After the prayers, people embraced and greeted each other with Eid greetings, demonstrating a serene show of unity, fraternity and equality.
The national flag was hoisted atop government and non-government office buildings on the day. The main city streets and road islands were decorated with the national flags and banners inscribed with 'Eid Mubarak' in Bangla and Arabic.
Television channels and radio stations aired special programmes on the occasion. Special diets were served in hospitals, jails, government child families, Chotomoni Nibash, centres for persons with disabilities, shelter homes, orphanages, Vagrant Welfare and Destitute Welfare centres.
President Abdul Hamid and his wife Rashida Khanom hosted a reception to senior government officials, city elite and diplomats at Bangabhaban
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina exchanged Eid greetings with leaders and workers of her party and people of all strata at her official residence Ganobhaban.
