Road crashes kill 10 in 3 districts
Dhaka: Ten people were killed in road accidents in Rangpur, Chuadanga, and Lakshmipur on Friday.
In Rangpur, six members of a family were killed as a bus crashed into a battery-run human-hauler they were travelling in at Jhigatala in Taraganj upazila in the afternoon.
Five of the deceased were identified as Dulali, 32, Shahnaz Parvin, 23, Shahidul Islam, 40, Motasin Hossain, 6, and Rawshan Ara, 50. The victims hailed from Madhypara of Jaldhaka upazila in Nilphamari.
Taraganj police officer-in-charge Abdul Latif said the Rangpur-bound bus from Syedpur hit the three-wheeler in the area at about 5:45pm, killing the six on the spot.
The tragedy struck the victims while returning to their home from Rangpur, he said.
On information, police recovered the bodies.
Meanwhile, deputy commissioner of the district Rahat Anwar announced to provide Tk 10,000 for each of the deceased.
In Chuadanga, three teenagers were killed and two others injured as a shallow engine-run human hauler overturned after crashing into a tree in Alamdanga upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased are Prince, 18, son of Jahangir Hossain, Sajal, 17, son of Rafiqul Islam, and Emon, 16, son of Mukul Mondal. All of them hailed from Parkula village in the upazila.
Witnesses said the human hauler hit the tree by Chuadanga-Kushtia highway at Dambolpur Mor at about 5:30pm after its driver lost control over the steering.
The accident left Prince dead on the spot and four other occupants injured. Sajal and Emon died at hospital.
The accident struck the victims while they were returning to Alamdanga from Poradah in Kushtia, said Alamganga police officer-in-charge Akram Hossain.
Yet in another accident in Lakshmipur, a teenager, Neon, 16, son of Abdur Rahim of Denayetpur in Raipur upazila, was killed as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw hit a motorcycle in Raipur bus terminal in the evening.
