4 body recovered after boat capsize in River Halda

Chittagong: Divers of the Fire Service and Civil Defense recovered the bodies of four people from the River Halda on Saturday morning, 24 hours after a boat carrying them capsized in Suabil of Fatikchhari upazila in Chittagong.

The deceased are Nurul Islam, of Purba Suabil village, Rijvi, 15, son of M Hanif, Emon, 18, son of Mohammad Rubel and Arman, 7.

Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense of Chittagong Kamaluddin Bhuiyan said a group of divers recovered the bodies of Nurul, Rizvi and Emon around 10am and that of Arman at about 10:45am.

Earlier on Friday morning, a boat with an unspecified number of passengers on board capsized in the Haldar due to excessive load and strong current.

However, all but five passengers managed to swim ashore, said Officer-in-charge of Fatikchhari Police Station M Abu Yusuf Miah.
