DNCC tells unauthorised commercial institutes in Gulshan to move away
Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has issued letter to the unauthorised commercial institutions, including restaurants, hospitals and educational institutions, asking those to move away from the Gulshan area in Dhaka.
‘Letters were issued to concerned institutions in this regard. Drive to remove those is on cards,’ DNCC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Mesbahul Islam told BSS.
He said a decision was made in a meeting of cabinet committee on law and order at the Secretariat in Dhaka to remove all the unauthorised educational institutions, restaurants and hospitals from Gulshan to ensure security for the lone diplomatic enclave following recent militant attacks.
‘But the decision is yet to reach at DNCC as an order. Steps will be taken after the order will come. But DNCC has started its activities in this regard,’ he said.
Mesbahul Islam said the cabinet took a decision in a meeting on April 4 last to shift all sorts of illegal structures and commercial institutions in the city’s residential area within six months.
‘It was decided in the meeting that if the institutions do not be shifted within the period, their supply lines of gas, power and water would be cut off and trade license would be cancelled,’ he said.
Mesbahul Islam said the meeting also decided to conduct joint drive comprising of authorities of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), Housing, City Corporation and concerned.
