Chittagong: Two minor sisters have drowned in a pond at Ratnapur village of Datmara union under Fatikchhari upazila of the district at 1 pm today.

The deceased Azma Akter, 9, and Nazma Akter, 7, were daughters of Kabir Ahmed and hailed from Datmara union under Fatikchhari upazila of the district. Both the sisters were students of local Madrasa.

Police said the girls drowned in the pond beside their residence while playing in the area at 12.45 pm today.

Locals and family members rescued the victims in an unconscious condition and took them to Fatikchhari upazila health complex at 2 pm, where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.
