Body of boy who fell into Mirpur sewer recovered

Dhaka: The body of a 4-year-old boy, Zunayed Hossain Sabbir, who fell into an open sewer on Thursday night, was recovered on Friday morning, ending a nervy wait of 19 hours.
Mirpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Senior station officer Abdullah Arefin said city corporation workers retrieved the body some around 200 meters away from the point where Zunayed fell.
Rabiul Islam, a cleaning worker of Dhaka North City Corporation, said he found the body of Zunayed while cleaning garbage near a water pump at about 10:45 am.
Earlier in the morning, the fire fighters resumed the rescue after a seven hours’ pause.
Four divers from Fire Service started the operation at about 7:30am, said sources from Fire Service Control Room.
Zunayed Hossain Sabbir, son of Amir Hossain, fell into the sewer near Mirpur Commerce College in Mirpur 2 at about 8:40pm on Thursday.
On information, three fire-fighting teams and divers went to the spot to conduct a rescue operation.
As they could not find the whereabouts of the boy, the rescue operation was suspended at about 1:00am.
