Six workers suffered critical burn injuries as a fire broke out at two small garment factories in Dhaka’s Kamrangirchar area on early Saturday.

The fire originated at about 3:50am at two tin-shed garment factories of two owners at Alinagar area under Kamrangirchar Police Station, fire brigade authorities said.

Locals had brought the fire under control before the fire engines reached the place of occurrence while cause behind the fire could not be known immediately, the sources said.

Six workers, who joined one of the factories Brishti Fashion three days back, suffered critical burn injuries in the fire, hospital and fire brigade authorities said, reports BSS.

The workers were sleeping at the time of breaking out the fire.

The injured Nazmul, 19, with 52 per cent burn injuries, Suman, 18, Shakil, 18, with 72 per cent, Monir Hossain, 16, 48 per cent, Ashiq,17, with 20 per cent and Md Ahshan, 17, with 63 per cent were rushed to Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

The health conditions of the six workers are critical, said Dr Partha Shankar Paul, residential surgeon of burn unit of DMCH.
