Bangladesh celebrates IMSO win
Dhaka: Bangladesh on Sunday formally celebrated its win in the post of Director General of the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) in the city.
Ministry of Shipping and Maritime Forum (Association of Bangladeshi Mariners) jointly arranged the reception at Westin Hotel in the evening.
Captain Moin Ahmed was elected as the new director general of the IMSO under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) contesting against candidates of France, Germany, Italy and Romania finally with 49-37 votes.
Foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali, shipping minister M Shajahan Khan, shipping secretary Shafique Alam Mehdi, secretary, Maritime Affairs Unit, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rear Admiral (Retd) M Khurshed Alam, visiting IMSO DG Captain Moin Ahmed and convener of the Maritime Forum Captain Zillur Rahman Bhuiyan were, among others, present.
Bangladesh’s win in the IMSO election follows significant victories in other international forums, what reflects the international community’s trust on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government, speakers said at the function.
They vowed to work for continued development of Maritime Bangladesh in the years to come.
IMSO is an inter-governmental organisation, constituting of 99 international Member States, whose primary purpose is the oversight of certain public satellite safety and security communication services provided by mobile satellite communication systems.
