16 rescued alive after speedboat capsizes in Padma
Munshiganj: All the 16 passengers of a speedboat were rescued alive after it capsized in the Padma River at Kathalbari of Shibchar upazila in Madaripur on Monday evening, reports UNB.
Sub-inspector Mosharraf Hossain, in-charge of Mawa River Police Camp, said the speedboat started for Shimulia ferry terminal from Kawrakandi with 16 passengers on board at about 7:15pm defying the ban.
On the way, the boat overturned in the middle of the river after a collision with a dredging pipe of BIWTA.
However, 14 passengers managed to keep them afloat holding the dredging pipe.
On information, a rescue team rushed in from Shibchar jetty and rescued them.
The Shibchar Police Officer-in-charge Zakir Hossain said the rest two passengers were also rescued.
However, the driver of the boat managed to flee.
