Annisul pledges green Dhaka

Dhaka: Awami League-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) elections Annisul Huq on Saturday announced his election manifesto promising to turn Dhaka into a ‘livable, humanely, green and clean city’.
‘We’ll make Dhaka a livable city by identifying the problems of the city. Our philosophy will be to turn Dhaka city into a humanely one for both rich and poor where respect for the citizens will be the top priority. The rights of people will be protected,’ he said while reading out his election manifesto at his office at Khilkhet in the city.
Annisul, also a former FBCCI president, observed that proper planning as well as right leadership is needed to rebuild Dhaka.
Promising that Nagar Bhaban will not turn into a party office, the ruling party-backed candidate said it will rather be run with the participation of all. ‘I want to be a friend of city dwellers, not father.’
He said the common people will be able to inform him about the problems of their respective areas through mobile apps. ‘I’ll try to solve those if I’m elected mayor in the polls.’
In the manifesto, he also highlighted his short-, mid- and long-term plans to solve the problems of Dhaka city.
‘My target is specific…plan is transparent and future is bright. I know how to overcome a tough situation. I want to utilise all of my experiences for the development of the city corporation,’ he added.
In reply to a question, the mayoral candidate said, ‘Corruption is always my enemy. I didn’t compromise with corruption in the past and wouldn’t do in the future either. If I get elected, all services of the city corporation will be corruption-free.’
Awami League joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, international affairs secretary Faruk Khan, Beximco Group vice-chairman Salman F Rahman and Annisul’s wife Rubana Huq were, among others, present.
