'Do everything for peaceful polls'
Dhaka: Awami League-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Annisul Huq on Friday urged the Election Commission to do everything, including deployment of army, properly so that voters can exercise their franchise safely.
‘All want a good election. For this reason, everything should be done properly. The Election Commission should do everything so that voters can exercise their franchise safely. All forces, including army, needed to be deployed to hold a peaceful election’ he said.
The Awami League-backed mayoral candidate came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at Uttara during his election campaign.
Annisul said that the voters will vote for the best candidate who will work for them from the next day of voting.
‘I think voters will vote for me as I got support from a big party. The candidate who got support from the ruling party he would able to perform more than any other candidate...And it is natural,’ he added.
In reply to a question which candidate he considers as his strong rival, Annisul replied ‘ I considered all the 13 candidates as my strong rival.’
Annisul Huq started his Friday's election campaign with a rally organised by Bangladesh United Muslim Party at Milestone School and College auditorium at Uttara-11 at about 10.30am.
Addressing the rally, he said ‘I have come here for work. My focus will be to carry out development works in five years tenure. I will look after the Dhaka citylike a father who looks after his family.’
Later, he begged votes at different places of Uttara 1,3 and 7 sectors.
Annisul sought votes assuring people of resolving the common problems of the city as well as turning Dhaka into a green city.
During the campaign, his supporters chanted slogans and distributed leaflets seeking votes in favour of his election symbol 'Table Clock'.
Later, he held a street rally in Jashimuddin road of Uttara-1. Local lawmaker and former home minister Sahara Khatun, Zahid Ahsan Russel and Gazipur city Awami League president Azmat Ullah Khan were present.
