Gazipur: A fire broke out at a ready-made garments factory in Chandra Palli Bidyut area of Kaliakoir in Gazipur early Saturday, causing a considerable damage.

Kaliakoir Fire Service station officer Apurba Bal said the fire ensued on the second floor of a five-storey building of Tropical Composite Factory of the ‘Mondal Group’ in the area at about 12:45am and soon spread to other floors.

On information, 13 firefighting units from Gazipur, Joydebpur, Mirzapur, Savar EPZ and Kaliakoir fire stations rushed to the spot.  

The blaze could not be tamed as yet while this report was being filed at 10:30am.  

Machinery, threads, cloths and other valuables were damaged in the fire, the station officer added.

It could not be ascertained yet what caused the fire, Apurba said.
