DMP releases new footages of Avijit killers
Dhaka: Aimed at inspiring the citizens to come forward with information about the killers of blogger Avijit Roy, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Sunday released a couple of new footages from that fateful day of February 26, 2015.
Writer and blogger Avijit and his wife Rafida Ahmed came under attack in Dhaka University campus area while they were returning home from the Amar Ekushey book fair on that day, reports BSS.
Avijit succumbed to his injuries following the attack on him with sharp weapons, at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at about 10:30pm on that same night. Avijit's wife Rafida Ahmed, 35, was critically injured but luckily survived.
Three persons were seen following Avijit and his wife Rafida Ahmed in two hazy night-time footages, with one of the alleged attackers carrying a backpack on his shoulder. But compared to the other footages released earlier of the incident, these footages are clearer and face of one of the attackers, a little bulky man wearing glasses, is quite clear.
Three alleged attackers were following Avijit and Rafida and entered a place, what seems to be Bangla Academy premises maintaining little distance between them and the couple.
In another footage, appeared to be captured at 4:02pm, one man wearing kurta was seen eagerly waiting for someone at the entrance of Suhrawardy Udyan leading to Ramna Kali Mandir (temple). Another alleged attacker was seen entering the Udyan riding a bicycle a minute earlier.
Releasing the footage on its facebook page, DMP urged the citizens to help them in arresting the accused. Police has called upon all to provide information about those alleged attackers, if there is any, through message on their facebook page or recently released Hello CT mobile application.
Avijit-Rafida, the US expatriate couple arrived in Bangladesh on February 16 in 2015, for participating in the book publishing ceremony. Avijit, was a professional engineer and his wife Rafida Ahmed is a doctor.
