Dhaka: Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla calendar of 1422, was celebrated on Jahangirnagar University campus at Savar in Dhaka on Tuesday with festivities and much enthusiasm.
Marking the day, teachers, students along with officers and employees of the university, brought out a procession from Old Arts Faculty building in the morning with banners, placards, masks and sign of Bangali culture.
Led by JU vice-chancellor Farzana Islam, the procession ended on the central Cafeteria premises after parading the campus.
The university authorities also organised a three-day Baishakhi fair.
Farzana Islam inaugurated the fair as the chief guest while pro-vice-chancellor Abul Hossain, were present among others.
